An unbeaten century by opener Chris Gayle guided Barisal Burners to a comfortable 10-wicket victory over Sylhet Royals in the opening match of Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament in Dhaka on Friday.
Barisal Burners reached their target in only 13.1 overs as Gayle cracked 101 off 44 while his Pakistani opening partner Ahmed Shehzad smashed 56 off 35.
Earlier, Sylhet Royals made a fighting score of 165 losing four wickets depending on two half-centuries by PD Trego (62) and Alok Kapali (56) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Barisal Burners bowlers Yasir Arafat captured two wickets while SM Harwood and Suhrawadi Shuvo took one wicket each.
Barisal Burners won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Kings will face Duronto Rajshahi in the evening in the day’s second match.
