Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team Barisal Burners unveiled their logo and jersey in a gala ceremony at the city's Lakeshore Hotel on Wednesday.
"Barisal Burners will be the inextinguishable flame of cricket. I hope, the team will be champions," said Azizul Islam, chairman of Alif Group, which owns the franchise.
Shahriar Nafees, the icon player of the team, introduced all the players, except Caribbean left-hander Chris Gayle, who will come on Thursday morning.
"Our first target is to reach the semi-finals and then concentrate on the final," Nafees said.
"It's a matter of pride for me that I am playing for my own district Barisal," he added.
Singer S I Tutul sung in the function while dancers added magnificence to the function.
The theme song of the team was played when a fashion show was staged.
Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed, elected MP from a constituency in Barisal, greeted the team.
"Barisal is the birthplace of many heroes. They brought fame to the country in many ways. Barisal will promote the image of the country through cricket now."
Another leader of the ruling party, Amir Hossain Amu, said Barisal will gain popularity internationally by playing well in the tournament.
BNP leader Moazzem Hossain Alal and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chief Andaleeve Rahman Partho were also present.
