Jayasuriya joins Khulna Royal Bengals' practice

Khulna Royal Bengals practised for the first time for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 competition with a star-studded batting line up boasting Sanath Jayasuriya, Herschelle Gibbs, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Niall O'Brien.

Royal Bengals' coach Robin Singh also found captain Shakib Al Hasan, Abdur Razzaq, Shafiul Islam and Shahadat Hossain at the Tuesday night practice in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

One-day cricket's legendary hard-hitting batsman Jayasuriya has had little exposure at Twenty20.

However, the former Sri Lankan captain believes his own batting trend will not put him off guard in the new format. "I love hard-hitting batting. I have prepared myself well for BPL and want to play my own game."

Gibbs is thrilled about the BPL.

"Bangladesh's young cricketers will learn a lot from the tournament."

Not only would the cricketers, Bangladesh's cricket also benefit, the South African opening batsman pointed out.

"Bangladesh is developing gradually. Their team is filled with youngsters. The more they play, the better they will become."

"BPL would be a good test for their physique and psychology. This experience will definitely help them in international cricket."
